Seven coasters and a post that stack into a Christmas tree.

What you get

  • A 7-page PDF, A4 and US Letter both included
  • 63 numbered rounds, each ending in the stitch count you should have
  • A stitch chart drawn from the same counts as the written pattern
  • 5 things that commonly go wrong, and what to do about each

Before you start

  • Skill level: Confident beginner
  • Finished size: largest disc about 12 cm (4.7 in) across; stacked, about 10 cm tall
  • Time to make: about 1.9 hours to 3.2 hours
  • Assembly: Seven discs and one post, threaded together. Nothing is sewn. Each disc lifts off for use as a coaster.
  • Terms: US crochet terms throughout.

You must already know: chain, single crochet, increase, working in continuous rounds, using a stitch marker. This pattern does not teach you to crochet — it teaches you to make this one object.

You will need: stitch marker, toy stuffing for the post, yarn needle, scissors. Yarn: Green worsted cotton (CYC 4), small amount brown for the post.

Two things this file does not state. Yarn amount and hook size are left blank on purpose — neither can be worked out from a stitch count, and no physical make has been recorded to measure them from. Size and time above are calculated from the counts, not measured. Every count was worked out twice, independently, and matched before the file was allowed to exist.
